This Traditional Roofing Project is all bespoke, & all hand crafted. From the hand made KIng Posts, to the hand finished perlins. All made from high grade Red Wood, mortice & tenon jointed. With doweled 40mm fixings.
Working closely with the architect, we were able to achieve the write design to give maximum space & light to the finished internal look of the new school extension. As hight restrictions on the new build for that area, through up some problems in achieving enough hight & natural light for the new classroom. We achieved this by coming up with a new perlin design, that sat on the King posts to achieve the maximum hight. We also fitted 6 electrically operated velux roof windows to achieve maximum natural light for the children.
The rafter work was comprised of 100 x 70mm timbers, sitting on top of 250 x 150mm perlins, infilled with 100mm king span insulation. With an under covering of 50mm insulation to prevent heat loss & give maximum energy efficiency.
When finished the new build has the same appearance as the rest of the school, but from the inside has the appearance of a barn conversion. With an open & airy feel.
The roof was finished of with a tile covering to match existing, with timber fascia & deep timber soffit to act as a shield from the elements.
